भगवान गणेश को दूर्वा क्यों अर्पित की जाती है?

भगवान गणेश की पूजा में दूर्वा घास का विशेष महत्व है। इसके पीछे गणेश पुराण में एक रोचक कथा बताई गई है।

कथा के अनुसार अनलासुर नामक एक शक्तिशाली दैत्य ने तीनों लोकों में आतंक मचा रखा था। देवताओं ने भगवान विष्णु से सहायता मांगी। भगवान विष्णु ने उन्हें भगवान गणेश की शरण में जाने को कहा।

देवताओं की प्रार्थना स्वीकार कर भगवान गणेश ने अनलासुर का सामना किया और उसे अपनी सूंड से उठाकर निगल लिया। लेकिन दैत्य के शरीर से निकलने वाली अत्यधिक गर्मी के कारण भगवान गणेश के पेट में भयंकर जलन होने लगी।

देवताओं ने पानी, अमृत, चंदन और फूलों सहित कई उपाय किए, लेकिन गर्मी शांत नहीं हुई। शेषनाग के प्रयास भी सफल नहीं हुए।

तभी ऋषियों ने दूर्वा घास की गड्डियां लाकर भगवान गणेश के पूरे शरीर पर रख दीं। दूर्वा के स्पर्श से उनकी जलन तुरंत शांत हो गई।

इससे प्रसन्न होकर भगवान गणेश ने वरदान दिया कि जो भक्त उन्हें 21 दूर्वा अर्पित करेगा, उसे उनका आशीर्वाद प्राप्त होगा। तभी से गणेश पूजा में 21 दूर्वा अर्पित करने की परंपरा चली आ रही है।

Why Shri Ganesh is offered ‘Durva’ grass

Durva grass holds special importance in Lord Ganesh’s worship, and there’s a fascinating tale behind this tradition.

According to the Ganesh Puran, the story begins with a powerful demon named Analasura who terrorized the three worlds and tormented the Devas.

Seeking help, the Devas first approached Lord Vishnu, who directed them to Lord Ganesh. When they explained their plight to Ganesh, he agreed to help. During the next attack, Ganesh simply picked up Analasura with his trunk and swallowed him.

However, this created an unexpected problem. The demon generated intense heat inside Ganesh’s stomach, causing him great discomfort. Despite trying various cooling remedies like water, nectar, sandalwood paste, and flowers, nothing could reduce the heat. Even Adishesha’s attempts proved futile.

The solution came when sages brought bundles of Durva grass and covered Ganesh with it from head to toe. Miraculously, this immediately cooled the burning sensation. Impressed by the grass’s unique power, Ganesh declared that henceforth, offering just 21 blades of Durva grass would be enough to gain his blessings, and no worship of him would be complete without it
